FIS SnowKidz campaign in full swing

The 2009/2010 FIS competition season was the first season during which local activities implemented by the National Ski Associations took place in conjunction with the FIS's international "Bring Children to the Snow" campaign. Throughout the season, FIS SnowKidz meeting points were staged at a total of 25 FIS World Cup events across all six FIS disciplines and at the FIS Ski Flying World Championships 2010. An estimated total of 6'000 children, aged 4-14, were able to experience one-on-one encounters with professional athletes and personal idols and got introduced to various snow activities. The examples of St. Moritz, Toblach and Planica serve to illustrate how to engage children in SnowKidz activities and connect them in new ways with snow and ski sports so they can take home lasting memories. For the 2010/2011 season, new snow activities will be introduced within the scope of the SnowKidz campaign.

Who will be the winner of the first FIS SnowKidz award? The decision will be officially announced at the 47th International Ski Congress in Antalya (TUR) starting 30th May 2010. The FIS SnowKidz award is a prize for the best examples of bringing children to the snow in varying national circumstances. A total of 22 projects were submitted by 18 nations to compete for the first FIS SnowKidz Awards, of which 8 out of the total number of applications come from the developing ski nations. A jury is currently assessing the projects on the basis of their contribution towards the goals of the "Bring Children to the Snow" campaign. 8 projects will be selected by the jury for the final round and awarded CHF 5'000 with the FIS Council deciding the top three prize winners. The winning projects receive additional CHF 10'000 (1st prize), CHF 8'000 (2nd prize) and CHF 5'000 (3rd prize).
